The Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida Restarts Rhino Encounter ProgramAfter a 3 year hiatus, the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida has reintroduced the Rhino Encounter experience. In 2019, a 2-year-old girl was hurt when she slipped through the Rhino Encounter exhibit's bars by mistake. Her mother, whose arms were hurt was also transported to the hospital for treatment at the time. The tiny girl was rescued in a matter of seconds, but she did suffer some injuries. This event caused management to halt the Rhino encounter. Now the Brevard Zoo is giving the Rhino Encounter a second chance. Management at the zoo has made some adjustments to the experience in hopes of improving the safety. As a result, the age requirement has been altered, the netting around the steel bars has been inserted, and some safety procedures have been established. A few days a week, the zoo is now available for visitors to observe the rhinos up close and personal. In addition, guests must be at least 7 years old to participate in the activity. 12-Foot Alligator Tried to Cross the Road but Blocked by the Florida Highway PatrolWhy did the alligator cross the street? Well, we'll never know because it never got the chance to cross - the police kept it at bay.The Florida Highway Patrol of Southwest Florida informed people to drive cautiously as its troopers tried to keep a 12-foot alligator from crossing the road to the Interstate 75 travel lanes (at mile marker 78). The warning was posted on Twitter last January 18.There were no further updates about the report. However, it is safe to assume (I think) that no one was hurt. The alligator also probably just went back from whence it came, complaining 'bout "darned cops."Interstate 75 in Florida is also known as the "Alligator Alley," as the reptiles often frequent the area.(Image Credit: FHP SWFL/ Twitter)#Alligators #AlligatorAlley #Florida #Animals
Eagle Nest Cam: Live Feed of Wild Bald Eagle Nest in Florida Shows Ron and Rita with their Eaglet ChicksIn the spring of 2021, heavy storms caused a bald eagle’s nest perched high up in a pine tree in Miami-Dade County in Florida to fail. Two baby eagles fell to the ground, and sadly one didn’t survive.Worried that the bald eagle pair, a male named Ron and a female named Rita, would try to rebuild the old nest (and have it fail again), Ron Magill of ZooMiami and Lloyd Brown from Wildlife Rescue Dade County got permission from the authorities to install a sturdy platform out of a wooden Papasan chair part, plastic mesh, small sticks and dried grasses. They also installed a camera so they can monitor the bald eagles more easily. In November and December of 2021, Rita laid three eggs, which hatched into eaglets that you can see on the live webcam! If you’re wondering where the nest is located, that information is not released to the public to protect the birds. More information about Ron and Rita’s nest can be found at Zoo Miami.

After a terrifying experience with the reptile, she immediately alerted her husband.Oliver Hire attempted to remove the iguana after being told by his wife to return home as soon as possible. But when he was unable to capture the iguana, he contacted Harold Rondan of the Iguana Lifestyle. Rondan was able to solve the problem the next morning without causing any injury.Iguanas are an invasive species in the United States. According to Rondan, iguanas can enter your home by slithering into a roof vent or avent pipe on top of your roof.
