Last year, we introduced you to Bobi, a Portuguese dog of the breed Rafeiro do Alentejo, who achieved the Guinness World Record for the oldest dog ever. Sadly, Bobi passed away in October, supposedly at the age of 31.
I say supposedly because there is now an investigation into whether Bobi was really that old, after questions arose concerning the documentation of his age. Veterinarians around the world have expressed doubts about a dog living for 31 years, and it has been pointed out that pictures of Bobi in his younger years show that his paws were a different color. Bobi was registered with the Portuguese database for cats and dogs, but the information in those registrations are taken from the pets' owners and no proof is required. Guinness has announced a formal review of the record. Read more on this development at The Guardian. No matter what his age really was, Bobi was definitely a good dog. -via Metafilter ā
