Why We Think Cats are Not Friendly: They're the Only Asocial Animal Humans have Ever Domesticated

Why is our relationship with cats so different than our relationship with dogs? The answer might be found in how we domesticated these asocial pets.

It is said that the earliest domesticated cats suddenly showed up on Neolithic villages in the Middle East about 10,000 years ago. Even at that time, they did not depend on us humans for food. They searched for food on their own.

From the beginning, cats have always been self-determined and self-sufficient. They didn't need us that much. And their descendants, the modern domesticated cats that we have today, still carry with them those qualities.
