A couple of tourists were stuck in their rental car when around 150 bison commandeer the road at the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park last month. The woman is afraid of them, hoping they don't attack or damage the car. But she needn't worry.
There is a human tendency for us to think that everything is about us. The bison are just going from one place to another, and the road is wide, firm, and slopes gradually. Why shouldn't they use it? After all, we are the tourists, and this is their home. They don't see the cars as anything but obstacles to walk around. That could change if the people in them did something dumb, like honk the horn or drive toward them. Then the vehicle would suddenly seem like a threat. The dumbest thing of all would be to get out of the car for a better look. As it was, the bison just went about their business, and eventually so did the tourists. -via Everlasting Blort
