Penguins and Otters at Hakone-en Aquarium in Japan Aren't Happy About Having to Cut Back Due to Inflation

Inflation does not only affect humans but animals too!

Because of inflation, Japan's Hakone-en Aquarium had to undergo cost-cutting methods such as changing the diet of the animals and reducing the number of circulation pumps. As mentioned, the diet of these penguins has, according to the penguins, been drastically altered. The penguins and otters were used to being fed with aji (horse mackerel). The aquarium, however, switched to a cheaper alternative, saba (mackerel).

Since they were used to being fed with aji, the penguins clearly did not like being fed with saba. The penguins were captured in images turning away haughtily. This change is not a choice that the aquarium did happily; it is the aquarium's natural response to inflation. The aquarium needs to be able to accommodate the diets of  32,000 or more animals.

Save the economy! Save the penguins!
