Famous Scientists and Their Cats

Intellectual people tend to treasure their cats for more than just pest control. We've already seen how famous authors loved their cats, now we know that scientists do, too. Some of them even provided inspiration for scientists' greatest discoveries! And like the authors we covered before, they had great names for their cats. Isaac Newton's cat was named Spithead, which may remind you of the dog Navin Johnson loved in the movie The Jerk (it was not originally named Stupid as the TV version tells us). Edwin Hubble, the astronomer the space telescope is named after, named his cat Nicholas Copernicus, after the 16th century astronomer. Read about these cats, plus Albert Einstein's beloved Tiger, Nikola Tesla and his inspirational Macak, and Erwin Schrödinger's possibly apocryphal cat Milton (who may be both dead and alive) at Discover magazine.
