Mother Nature does not take a break during wartime. On February 27, after a night of shelling that caused explosions to boom around the zoo, the Kyiv Zoo added two new animals to their population- newborn baby goats! See the goats in a Facebook video. ā
The Kyiv Zoo says they haven't lost any animals yet, and they are making arrangements to keep their residents from being stressed. Some animals have been moved to inside enclosures or even underground structures. Zookeepers are staying with their charges, and they have enough food for all as of now.
In other zoo news, six lions and six tigers from the Kyiv Zoo endured a two-day drive to Poland. They were transported along with two other wild cats and a wild dog, 1000 kilometers to safety at the border. They were picked up by a representative of the Poznan Zoo, which will be sheltering them as long as necessary.
