Double-Nosed Andean Tiger Hound is a Dog That Actually Has Two Noses
The double-nosed Andean tiger hound is so rare that it was once believed to be the stuff of legends. The first mention of this creature can be traced back to 1913 in the Amazon Jungle when Col. Percy Fawcett told tales of such animals after returning from an expedition. Nobody believed him, and the double-nosed dog remained a cryptozoological beast until the mid-2000s, when Col. John Blashford-Snell returned with a photo of the dog’s existence. It is a rare breed that only exists in Bolivia where it tracks jaguars with their enhanced smell.The dog that Blashford-Snell saw in 2005 was a female named Bella. Two years later, he met Bella’s son, Xingu, who shared the distinct trait. When asked, the locals confirmed that there were other such dogs in the area.Double-nosed Andean tiger hounds were bred to help hunters track jaguars in Bolivia. Only a little is known about them but it’s rumored that their noses give them a superior sense of smell. The breed is so rare that it’s not even recognized by major breed groups, and until Col.
