Groundhog Day for New Jersey this year was different, if a bit sadder, following the death of its beloved groundhog Milltown Mel.Every winter, Groundhog Day is celebrated across different states in the US. By tradition, a groundhog is chosen to foretell the end of winter by whether or not it sees its own shadow on the morning of February 2. Winter lasts for six weeks more if the groundhog sees its shadow, but spring arrives early if it doesn’t, so they say. Unfortunately for New Jersey, their chosen groundhog <a href="https://www.facebook.com/milltownmel/posts/1313845089027530">Milltown Mel died on January 31, 2022</a>, and a replacement was unavailable before Groundhog Day.
