A Very Photogenic Pallas's CatThe Pallas's cat is named so for Peter Simon Pallas who observed and wrote about the cat in 1776. It is locally known as manul, and in fact Pallas himself dubbed the species Felis manul, although it is now listed as Otocolobus manul. This cat is native to the high altitude areas of central Asia, from the Caucasus Mountains through Tibet into Siberia. They are well adapted to cold and arid conditions, and hunt rodents and rabbit-like creatures. They are about the size of domestic cats, but have a distinctive wild look. The Pallas's cat is the only small cat with round pupils. They also have rounded ears, and their thick fur makes them look much rounder than they actually are. Eve is a two-year-old Pallas's cat at the Novosibirsk zoo in Russia. She is not only used to a camera, but is fascinated with it. Here she shows off the slow, graceful moves she would use in stalking prey. This is in direct contrast with other Pallas's cats who can be quite jumpy or weird around cameras. #Manul #PallassCat #PallasCat
