Tangled Deer Freed by Hunter with Angle Grinder
During mating season, buck deer often fight each other, and sometimes their antlers get hopelessly tangled. This complication usually leads to the death of one or both deer. But in December, two tangled bucks were reported to Wisconsin landowners Troy Rebarchek and Tami Keenan. It was hunting season, and the couple could have just taken and tagged them, but Rebarchek thought that would be unethical. After all, they had no chance to escape on their own. When Rebarchek found the deer, they were not only tangled with each other, but also with a small tree. Rebarchek retrieved the only cutting tool he had in the truck, which was an angle grinder. He removed one antler from each buck, plus a few smaller pieces, until the two were freed. His wife recorded the rescue operation on video, which you can see at Facebook. If they were to fight each other again, they probably don't have enough antlers left to lock up. However, if you see a buck in the Wisconsin wood with lopsided antlers, give him a break- he's been through a lot.
