This Race Horse Is Named Sumomomomomomomomo

Like other people on the Internet, I think that the announcer on this video has skipped a few MOs as he pronounces the mare’s name. But it’s understandable. Sumomomomomomomomo has a name that is far too long and has so many identical syllables that it takes great concentration to say it correctly.

AFP explains that this Japanese race horse’s name is based on a traditional tongue twister in the Japanese language. It translates to “plums and peaches are both peaches.” Japanese audiences enjoy hearing frenzied racing announcers trying to say her name. That’s likely to happen more often in the future, as Sumomomomomomomomo recently won an important race.
