We make jokes about how cats would take over the world if only they had opposable thumbs. They are learning to work around that deficit by using claws and two paws at a time. Serena loves playing with rubber bands, and has worked out how to shoot them like an arrow by using both paws. That's a smart cat! The first time you see it, you might think it's accidental, but she does it over and over, because of course she does. Now Serena doesn't have to have someone around to make them move so she can chase down the fast-moving rubber bands.
But it's not yet time to panic. Cats may learn to manipulate manmade objects, but only for their own amusement. Actually taking over the world is a hassle they aren't likely to bother with, even when they are intelligent enough to do so. Cats are smart enough to get what they want, and that should be enough for anyone.
