The Fastest Wiener in the West

This past weekend gave us the 26th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. To clear things up right away, that's a dachshund race. The competition took place at the Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California. The racetrack usually hosts horses, but for this event, a 50-yard course was set up the for wiener dogs, who ran qualifying heats before the final event crowned a national wiener, uh, I mean winner. That winner was Beenie von Weenie, owned by Nicolee Leonard of Fullerton, California. Let's take a look at the final race from another angle.

It takes a lot of heart to run that fast on those short little legs! The races are sponsored by a hot dog chain called Wienerschnitzel, which explains why the trophy is always awarded by a person dressed in a hot dog suit. All proceeds from the races go to help support the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. A good time was had by all. -via Fark ā€‹
