It's been said that you choose a dog, but a cat chooses you. Sarah Andersen at Sarah's Scribbles knows just how to illustrate that concept.
In the comments at the Instagram post for this comic, you can read hundreds of stories of how people obtained their cats, many of them variations on "the cat walked in and never left." I once got a half-grown cat that way when he walked in and decided he and my eight-year-old were immediately bonded. She agreed. Another kitten tried every porch in the neighborhood until he got to ours, a house full of people who actually cared that he was running a fever. He's been with me eight years now.
There are currently three neighborhood cats who let me know they'd love to move in with me right now if I'd let them. They can see how well-fed my cats are, and they'd like to live with a lady who grows catnip on purpose. But I already have four cats, and these three already have homes. So I have to make sure my door catches every time, else I will be chasing them out again. (Thanks, WTM!)
