Meet Kaya, a 9-year-old German Shepherd that worked as a service dog for veterans. During her time working, she helped veterans with mental health challenges. Revered by many passengers and employees at Southwest Airlines, the pupper was treated to a final flight before she finally gets to rest.
Kaya was there on the plane, dutifully waiting for anybody who needs her assistance. Her handler, Cole T. Lyle, was also there on her last flight. “On Kaya’s trip home, the pilots made special mention of her before we took off,” he explained. “When we landed, we loaded Kaya onto a cart to take her out, and when we got to the top of the ramp…the entire terminal cheered and clapped for her. If you were one of them: thank you.”
Kaya is also the dog who inspired the PAWS act during her time of service. For reference, this law provides canine training for dogs that can assist veterans who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Sadly, right after her final flight, Kaya passed away over to her next great adventure.
