Hey, felines can soothe frayed nerves too!
The San Francisco International Airport has welcomed its first feline animal to its elite team of certified therapy animals, called the “Wag Brigade.” Meet Duke (full name Duke Ellington Morris) the Cat. He was a rescue, found in the streets of San Francisco in a feral cat colony. He was brought to his former home after staying at the San Francisco Animal Care and Control for treatment.
Duke, who was initially believed to be a bit tense and feral because of his initial environment, was actually mild-mannered and calm. Believing that he was special, his family then decided to have the cat trained and certified as a therapy animal. True to their beliefs, Duke was certified by the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The feline has been helping people of all ages deal with stress, illness, and hardships as a therapy animal. Now, Duke joins the team of dogs and other animals such as Alex, a Flemish giant rabbit, and LiLou, a Juliana-breed pig. "Introducing Duke Ellington Morris," the airport introduced him online. "Duke is the 1st cat to qualify for the Wag Brigade! We are proud to welcome Duke to our diverse and unique team of therapy animals!"
These animals can be seen at work in the establishment wearing “Pet Me” vests or timely costumes for holidays and season changes. We’re cheering for you, Duke!
