Reindeer Are Really Fast

Filo posted a video of a reindeer racing a train. We don't know where this was taken, but that reindeer is making tracks! A quick check shows that reindeer typically run between 23 and 31 miles per hour, but if being chased, they can sprint up to 48 miles per hour! No wonder they are used to pull skiers in Norway.

Jason Kottke pointed out the skills of the camera operator in keeping the reindeer centered in the video, which should be noted. Incidentally, they are called reindeer in Eurasia, and caribou in North America. Since Filo said he expected this one to start flying, and this is the internet, Trop made it happen.

ActionMovieDad had the same thought, with a little more panache.

And that, boys and girls, shows you how Santa Claus can travel the entire world in one night! -via Kottke
