Tuesday morning, a planeload of dogs was being transported from shelters in the southern US to northern cities in hopes they would find permanent homes. The plane made an emergency crash landing on the third hole of Western Lakes Golf Course in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
"This was a relatively catastrophic landing where they went through trees. The wings actually came off of the aircraft," said Assistant Chief Matthew Haerter with Lake Country Fire and Rescue.
Golf course employees, including golf pro Garrett Mack, rushed to the scene and unloaded the dogs from their damaged crates. The three humans and a few of the dogs suffered minor injuries. There were no fatalities. The frightened dogs were taken to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS), where they were tended to and are being prepped for adoption. A fundraiser for the dog's expenses has been doing well. No word on what caused the emergency crash landing, but it is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. -via Fark ā
