For the first time, critically endangered Sumatran tigers have been born at the Nashville Zoo. A seven-year-old tiger and first time mother named Anne gave birth to three cubs on October 20. The father is a tiger named Felix. Zoo staff watched the birth on a closed circuit camera and said that Anne did a marvelous job. It was only today, six days after the birth, that the staff was able to pry Anne away from her babies long enough for a quick veterinary check. The cubs are two girls and a boy, and are in good health. They were returned to the den where Anne will care for them in privacy.
