It's that time of year again when the humans bring in a tree from outside just for the cat to play with! They know it's a cat toy, because it's got lights and shiny dangly things and even boxes covered with paper underneath. It's also the season where we get plenty of viral images and videos of cats wrecking Christmas trees. Redditor runeknight5 adopted a cat this year, and showed us how he is taking precautions with the tree. You can't help but laugh. The top comment says it best, "It really IS your first Christmas with a cat if you think THAT will stop him." It may work with a baby just learning to walk, or a puppy, but cats can climb, jump, and defeat any obstacle to play with that marvelous tree.
You can try hanging your tree from the ceiling, but that doesn't always work.
There are devices that will more firmly attach your ornaments to the tree, but they won't keep your cat from climbing up to try.

It might be a good idea to give your cat a distraction. But you'll have to make it very attractive to your cat.
