Sue Stubley of Newmarket, UK, runs the Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital, but that's not what this is about at all. She has a two-year-old Jack Russell terrier named Teasel, who doesn't have anything to do with the hedgehogs. Stubley has trained her to leave them alone. But it was different when Stubley was asked to take in six abandoned feral kittens. She planned to find them a shelter the next day, but those plans changed.
Teasel started looking after the kittens, and even grooming them. With a few hours, the dog started lactating and nursing them! Now Teasel protects the kittens as if she were their mother, and it may be a while before they leave the hedgehog hospital. Stubley is supplementing Teasel's milk with cat formula by bottle, but the fact that she's lactating at all is astounding, since Teasel has never given birth. There's something about six adorable, needy kittens that stimulated her as nothing did before. -via Farkā
