Is This Heaven? 300 Golden Retrievers in One Yard

The Golden Retriever Club of Scotland arranged for a reunion of Goldens at Guisachan House in Glen Affric, Scotland. That is the place where the breed was founded, 155 years ago. Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, later known as Lord Tweedmouth, wished for a proper hunting dog, and bred a yellow flat-coated retriever with a Tweed water spaniel in 1868 and got a litter of four golden puppies. Subsequent generations were bred with a red setter, a Labrador retriever, more flat-coated retrievers, and more water spaniels to produce the golden retriever breed

Guisachan House is now a ruin, but the goldens gather there every five years to mark their anniversary. The four-day event was held last weekend and drew 300 golden retrievers and their owners, who gathered for workshops, demonstrations, socializing, and a nighttime parade for the locals. A good time was had by all good dogs. -via Fark
