First Underwater Footage of an Angelshark Swimming and Burying Itself in the Sand

Photographer and marine biologist Jake Davies has been on the lookout for the Angelshark (Squatina squatina). Filmed in North Cardigan Bay off the Welsh coast of the UK, scientists now possess unique footage of a juvenile Angelshark for the first time, which provided evidence that these species use the Welsh waters to give birth.

The video shows us how beautiful Angelsharks are as they swim and bury themselves into the sand as camouflage to ambush their prey. These creatures are on the critically endangered list of the IUCN Red List of Threatened species.

Good job to the scientists who continue their research in better understanding the ecology of species in Wales!

Let us continue to care for the environment even in our own little ways.
