Boss Cross is a cross-country team from George Steinbrenner High School that has been helping shelter dogs find their forever homes for years. The athletes have partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to help promote animal adoption.
According to head coach Allison Szponar, the project aligns with the motto of the team, which is “Gentleman. Scholar. Athlete.” Each summer, winter, and fall break, the students would give the dogs a fun walk or run outside the shelter.
Glen Hatchell, behavior and enrichment manager at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, shared that the puppers appeared satisfied and relaxed after hanging out with the team members. During varsity week-long training camps, these puppers will be taken care of by the alumni of the team.
