Do Bizarre Names Help Pets Get Adopted?

Petfinder is a nationwide network that advocates for homeless pets. Their website lists dogs and cats available for adoption from shelters all over. Each pet is listed with a name, description, and photos. Naming pets in a shelter is like naming hurricanes: you'll run out of names and have to come up with a new system. That's how cats and dogs end up with shelter names like The Wifi Password, Algebra, and Burnt Lasagna. Odd names will help these animals stand out against the crowd in the ads- and maybe help them find homes sooner!

Jea Jensen has a Twitter account straightforwardly called Petfinder Names, that highlights Petfinder listings with the strangest names. Some are bit descriptive, while others may as well have come from a random word generator. But they are adorable animals looking for a forever home, so more power to whatever works!

What else could you expect with this little boy in your life?

He'll never be obsolete to his forever family!

You know, this might be a name worth stealing.

Well, my mother used to call me "Grace" when I did something clumsy.

He looks like he'd do it, too.

My mother once adopted two kittens. I suggested naming them Ricky and Lucy, and my brother suggested Celica and Tercel. Mom compromised, and named them Celica and Lucy, which completely negated the joke.

Petfinder Names even has an artist who illustrates some of these critters acting out their names! Follow Petfinder Names to see more of them as they are posted. If you find a bizarre name on Petfinder, you're invited to submit it. -via Boing Boing
