Cat's Purr is Certified as the World's Loudest

Nicole Spink was always impressed by how loudly her cat Bella purred. The 14-year-old tabby cat shows her contentment by emitting a loud, growling motor purr that forces her family to turn the TV up do they can hear it! Guinness World Record adjudicator Dave Wilson and a crew of sound engineers traveled to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK, to measure Bella's purr. She purred at 54.59 decibels, enough to achieve the world record for loudest purr by a domestic cat (living). That may sound like a strange title, since non-living cats do not purr. But it means that she is the loudest of all currently-living cats. The record for the loudest purr of all time is held by unrelated UK cats Smokey and Merlin, who both registered purrs of 67.8, but who are no longer among us.
