Cats Causing Trouble in the News

Back before we had courtroom dramas and police procedurals, people tuned into the drama of the justice system in London by following a tabloid newspaper called The Illustrated Police News. It related sensationalized stories with entertaining illustrations. And sometimes those stories involved cats. A roundup of such stories includes the animal trainer who performed with his cat in court, a woman who was attacked by a cat in her sleep, a fraud case in which a judge had to compare three cats in court, a barnyard battle between cats and rats, and a human interest story about a man who missed his train because a cat caused him to lose his suspender buttons and break his luggage. At the time, cats had little respect outside of their ability to catch mice and make newspaper readers laugh. While these stories aren't earth-shattering news, you can see how they would be entertaining to people who had no Netflix service.
