It’s a wild, wild, world.
Trail camera footage of a group of animals sprinting across a creek has made waves online. The video starts with some wild horses running for their lives and then being followed shortly by a charging grizzly bear. We too, would run for lives if a big bear was chasing after us.
These horses are running through the slopes of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, Canada. The Help Alberta Wildies Society, whose aim is to save and protect the horses in the video, who have rare Spanish bloodlines. The footage is from one of the trail cameras set up around the area. Unfortunately, the organization has stated that they are unsure if the horses in the video survived the chase.
This is because the horses, who were actually young foals, were being targeted by the bear. “We were out doing cameras today, and we noticed bear tracks at the bridge. Fresh ones. We just looked at the SD card and this is what we found had happened this morning,” the Help Alberta Wildies Society writes in a caption accompanying the video.“He [the grizzly bear] has a mate that crosses about 4 minutes later."
The organization also adds that they ran out of cameras and that they have to wait for their next camera run to know if that band survived. But they did see most of the foals they expected to see in the wild. “A grizzly can sustain a run at 25-28 mph for up to 2 miles,” the group wrote. “We won’t know until our next camera run if all of this band made it.”
