What a surprise!
Lori Collins McGee found a small octopus inside of a whelk shell during a walk on the beach. The South Carolina resident was in shin-deep water when she noticed the shell and checked if a crab was residing in it. Expecting pinchers, long tentacles greeted her instead!
McGee was able to take a picture of the octopus inside the shell before the animal crawled out of her hand. Don’t worry, she got it back to the ocean as quickly as possible. What a great chance encounter, though!
