An Exceptionally Lovely Cat Door

This tiny house sculpted into a street wall is called Casa de los Gatos, and you'll find it in Valencia, Spain. It actually leads to a garden. Nearby, an inscription reads, "In memory of the four cats that were left in Barrio del Carmen in 1094." What happened in 1094? When El Cid conquered Valencia, he found the city had more cats than people. Thinking the felines were diabolical, he ordered all the cats killed. According to tradition, only four cats escaped the extermination, and they became prized citizens.

The Wikipedia page is in Spanish, but a machine translation credits the sculpture to Alfonso Yuste Navarro, who built it in 2003. -via Fark
