Seminole County Animal Services in Florida is both the dog pound and a shelter. Sophie is a seven-year-old dog who spent a year at the shelter, waiting for someone to take her home permanently. All the dogs get excited when someone passes their pen, and Sophie got a lot of practice trying to catch their attention. But everyone who came in passed her by.
As she was approaching her one-year anniversary at the shelter, the staff posted a heart-wrenching time-lapse video of Sophie getting her hopes up every time someone walks down the corridor.
The scheme worked. A bunch of people came to the shelter to inquire about Sophie, and she was adopted! The virality of Sophie's video also led to quite a few other dogs finding homes as well. Any kind of publicity that highlights the plight of homeless animals means fewer homeless animals overall, so we are all for it. Have you visited your local animal shelter lately? -via Fark
