The animal control officer above is smiling, but the full picture shows her staggering under the weight of Patches. The 40.3-pound cat came into the care of Richmond Animal Care and Control with a serious case of overeating. Less than a day after the shelter posted his photo on Facebook, Patches was matched with a new owner who is committed to giving him a regimen of diet and exercise to get the cat down to a healthy weight. His new human, Kay Ford, had to have a second person help her carry Patches' cage out of the building. Ford promises to give Patches an Instagram account so that his fans can keep up with his weight loss journey.
